2nd card using Magnolia Stamps of Ate Cecille

In a previous post, I wrote the simple steps in making a card as tutored by Ate Cecille Atengco. Ate not only shared her knowledge but also her Magnolia stamps. Instead of a picture, Magnolia stamps or any other stamp can be used.

The Magnolia stamp is colored using a water brush with Tim Holtz distressed inks. I colored the stamps at home and I have only 6 basic colors. Other alternative coloring mediums are colored pens or watercolor.

I received my stamp prize from Filipino Scrapbookers' Challenge Blog last wednesday, 13 March 2013 - and I used one of the quotes "have a glorious day"  to stamp on the heart and then I embossed it as the message.

The base paper of the cover is 6 x 6 cut out from Canon watercolor paper. Again, the idea for not cutting the perforated side is something I saw from the works of Ime Oranga. Simple and yet nice.

I saw these flower cutout that I used instead of a paper doily in the FSCB Challenge 15 - it is 2 toned, not because I did something on the paper. I think what happened is that my Mom had been stashing so much, that before she stored this one, some oil or liquid had been poured accidentally thus changing the color.

All the patterned papers used are form All About Scrapbooking, again... just stashed as all the sets are no longer available. The flowers from upper left hand corner were bought from Karen Ngo at Lasting Impression.

Ate Cecille's Stand Up Card

Last Wednesday, 06 March 2013, Ate Cecille Atengco shared her knowledge at card making at Lasting Impressions in preparation for her 06 April Card Making Class.

The card sample was so nice! The technique or steps in doing the card are quite simple.

Let me share the steps in making your own Stand Up Card, its basically nice and can be done in an hour (more time depending on the embellishments or less time if you use simple / ready made embellishments such as the one i used from All About Scrapbooking.

1. Cut a 6 x 12 strip of paper. It can be patterned or not, this would serve as the base of the card.
You can just cut in half using a paper cutter a 12 x 12 paper sheet.

2. Fold the paper in half.

3. Fold the front flap upwards.

4. Cut for a  6 x 6 paper, which would be your front card cover. All About Scrapbooking sells 6 x 6 paper stacks which would be great for this!

5. Embellish the front cover, decorate it any ways you wish! You can place a photo or stamped images, saying or what have you. I cut a patterned paper into 5.75 by 5.75, placed a photo of my Mom and Nanette Garcia, placed two stickers, glued two petals and two flowers. Set aside.

6. Place a base pattern paper on the inside card. In this sample, I cut a 5.75 x 5.75 paper from All About Scrapbooking Blossoms set 2011 ( discontinued as of 2013).

7. Place a paper border at the middle and a ribbon, this would serve as a stopper when the front card is positioned to stand up. I can use the front - colored or the back side which is white, for my sample i chose the white or back side as it provides a more striking contrast. Photos show contrast: I also distressed the white punched paper ribbon.

8. Place sentiment, greeting or what about you to serve as caption for the card cover or sentiment to be expressed in the card. In this example, this is meant to be a Birthday card for Nanette Garcia of All About Scrapbooking / Filstar.

9. Paste or attached the front card to the front flap of the card.  Card is finished! Your done!

Note: The card layout was based on the FSCB 15 challenge. I positioned the blossom paper to have the daisy in lieu of the doily pattern paper with the bottom part reflective of the square base.

Below is Bessie Del Rosario's take during that Wednesday afternoon. She used the provided die cuts and embellishment by Ate Cecille Atengco.

LGS 2013 March week 2 : HATS

I saw two pictures of my Mom trying out Tulle miniature hats: Perfect for the layout! She was wearing pink and tried two hats then, white and pink, with no intention of buying - just to have her picture taken!

The layout is 100% All About Scrapbooking materials (I used papers from the heart and flower blooms set : both discontinued) and enhanced by Martha Stewart punchers. The base paper is Canon watercolour paper misted in red.

The Scrap moment was in placing the cupid with heart, it simply blend in the paper, that it sort of dissolve in its pinkness! My solution was to place that AAS chipboard sticker on white paper and free hand cut the shape! So, little cupid "floated" subliminally instead of being drowned in the paper.

I also took a little time to decide if i should place gem brad on the two paper daisies, decided to place but chose a different pair to place! Voila..... challenge done!

The layout is for the Let's Get Sketchy 2nd week of March 2013 challenge.

Coca Cola Challenge!

I signed up to a Scrapping challenge by Sunshine See for her Treasured Moments, it requires a layout showcasing Coca Cola. Hmmmm... so i can use the FSCB Challenge 15 layout. Then read the week's challenge at Kaboodle Doodles - 3D, so embellishment should be 3D, like I used bottle caps, ribbon flowers and foam die!

For the added and scrapbooking feel : layered flowers centered with a brad and the skeleton leaves from AAS!

Picture? I spent time looking over... there must be a pic with a picture of Coca Cola on the table... found three: during a bingo, a christmas gathering, and the bingo activities... I chose this one : when Tita Pat treated her students on the day of her retirement! Tita Pat retired on her 65th birthday, 09 February 2010 - she no longer finished the school year... time is up.. so is my deadline.

This layout is entered for the following challenges of:

Gratitude : Of course, the initial gratitude would be to Sunshine See who initiated the challenge.. her specification sort of broke my catatonic state in scrapping..

Then for Kathz and her scrapbook challenge blog, it is not easy to maintain one such challenge.

To Ludy who provided me with a Coca Cola bottle caps and the poster where I scrap the items.

To Carmel Carpio... although she is no longer with All About Scrapbooking : without her, I would not have most of the papers and embellishments I still use. She was so generous when she was handling the monthly Scrapping Club.

and... last and definitely not the least : Ms. Iris Babao - Uy : she handed that white foam embellishment she die cut on her birthday celebration!

FSCB 15 : TRIP

TRIP - refers to the Vietnam trip, then the cruise to Ha long Bay. It also refers to our hobby - our "trip" of scrapbooking...

I posted this last because after this, i felt exhausted as if drained of whatever creativity. But then, I used a lot of the AAS flowers - the native craft, fabric, and velvet!

Likewise, I extend my gratitude to Ms. Iris Babao - Uy who lend the use of her Martha Circle cutter and the insight of cutting into half the circle, which she used in two layouts.. me - I used both halves to border the picture which serve as a base for the flowers.

My Mom immediately commented on how nice - and what are her flowers doing in the layout! I said, I found them in a paper bag, plastic box, and just lying on the table.. still so much for her to use. Honestly and literally, you can just pick scrapbook embellishments from the floor!

FSCB 15 : LOVE HARMONY ETC

This is the last layout I did for the week, would rest for a little while. After doing the TRIP, i somehow find myself empty of ideas, i guess there is just so much permutation one can do.... hmmmm...

Then, I simply browse on my Mother's hoard - found some discontinued products of AAS on travelling - i used that as top most border, and cut off two planes for bothe ends.. and then cut a die cut for boys for the picture! I used white gem brads to enhance the clock (yes, its one of the those AAS discontinued lines.. hehehehe)

My mother noticed first the ribbon.. so nice.. not sure where she got it - but I placed it at the bottom and countered that there is still so much for her...

Feel smart moment : using the  8 x 11 sticker border of AAS and then placing corner tags! and then thinking of placing those white round brads - since i already run out of blue gem stick ons from AAS.

FSCB 15 : LES MISERABLES

Searching for ideas and for what have you.. found this picture of my Mom and thus I took it out to be scrapped immediately!

My Mom asked me where did I get the round scalloped base - "Ma, i just cut a round shaped using the circle cutter and then punched it with a Martha Stewart, except I had to estimate it"

Then I used one of the foam rubber cut outs given by Madam Iris Babao - Uy ( it was a very small birthday lunch ).  Found  a white leaf and use it as a base for the rose. I placed three butterflies punch out.. and thus.. the center body is done.

The lower half is comprised of two Martha Stewart punched border.. colored and then the reversed side which is white! I used the gem stick ons and brads of AAS for simple embellishment.

Smart moment : The paper I used at the bottom is no longer 12 inches - so when I used the puncher, ooops, there would be a gap! What I did is look at my quote stash (simple moments make great memories - just like watching movies ), frame it and place it over that unpunched center!

Musical note washi tape to embellish a movie musical and a writing washi tape for such a classic.

The "DREAM" sticker is from a travel theme embellishment of AAS, but then, I dreamed a dream is the most known song from the musical.

FSCB 15 : FORTUNE TELLER !!!

When I posted these series from the fun fair, I want this to be the last one... in a way, I am a fortune teller since I read the Tarot cards but I prefer being known more as a Tarot card reader. I enjoy tarot card reading since I provide some counselling to some person, I provide some insights. I always explain that its not exactly fortune telling since nothing is defintie.

We all have our own decisions.. and others have their own decisions.. so what may be read today would be different tomorrow!

I only used one puncher for the round and rectangular based.

The moment in this series is maximizing the AAS Fun Fair set in as much layouts I can make.  Last touch was the blue butterfly and the layered flower placed with the brads. ( These brads are my own stash : bought them at the tiangge or discounted price.. so one would see these embellishments for a long, long time...)

FSCB 15 : MAGICIAN

Its a weekend, I need to make some and I first chance at the would be my title - me! BERT! Then I saw the AAS Fun Fair set, and decided to use it for my sub titles... like Magician...

I thought of using a Tarot card : the magician.. but I have no time to set up the scanner and print it. No time to journal on the layout yet, so just a plain white journal for now.

I do not know any magic tricks but I know I can do a lot of things... just like magic! Just like this layout.. I used three punchers... and I find it magickal.. win or lose.. i would always love my work... this one more so since Blue is my favorite color... and I accidentally got a good shot at myself, half face shadowed.. a bit mystical if I may say.

FSCB 15 : RINGMASTER

Ringmaster..or should I just use ferris wheel? Nahh, ferris wheel would be too lame just because I cut the ferris wheel in lieu of the doily placement.  Ringmaster would be nice and reflective of me... after all, i did lead and commandeered a lot of "circus" in life.... during my studies and at work.. i was the brain and brawn.

People did looked up at me and i did juggle resources and my own time... ergo... the inclusion of two cut outs...

My scrap moments here : 1)placing another cutout on the feet of the juggler so it would be a bit more solid. 2) I used two punch out and placed a scrap to serve as the rectangular base, it did looked nice.  3) I reversed the scallop border which i had been using downwards.

FSCB 15 : THE STRONG MAN

I cry specially when I am alone. Crying brings catharsis and I love the peaceful feeling, that bliss after the tears had fell off my eyes.

I took a self pic of myself 01 January 2013 - and red is a strong color, suitable for the start of the year.  Thus, from there, naturally the best complement would be red and all.. and the title from the AAS Fun Fair set - the strong man!

One needs to be strong to survive in this world, and despite the tears and the depressions that I had suffered, I would like to think and reassure myself that I am a strong person for I had endured and survive for quite so far!

The circle laser cut I used is from AAS - STILL AVAILABLE! (as of 10 March 2013) Now, there is no red shade, so I used the back side and colored it from red distress ink! For the rectangular base, I used two punchers... the daisy and then top it with the scallop - and for the irregular space.. hid it with the butterfly!

Now, I had space for some journalling... but it seems I prefer journalling on this blog than on my layouts... i do blubber a lot and i find it easier to blabber on the keyboard than try to think in a few words.. so i took out  AAS embellishment - a shaker, star foam shape, and those gem brads!

I used a washi tape that shows blue and red - postage... well, it can be easily replaced by a ribbon if you like to scrap lift...

FSCB 15 : BIG TOP

Hmmmm...This layout is the last of the series of Bert and subtitle from the AAS Fun Fair paper set..

Not much to think... in liue of the embellished doily... I used of the scrap I already punched...suppose to be round but I committed a mistake... it was a failure.. so I just salvage the round ... hmmmm... I used another puncher of my Mom for the round flowerettes and then used a gem for center!!! That was a scrapbook moment....

Title.. Big Top...well, I am big and for a time I was at the top of my game... and for a select group.. my being top has a double meaning... ;)

Why the elephant? Its the only remaining shape i was able to cut from the set... I think I was able to maximize the AAS fair! Then, in cleaning up, saw this AAS hand made garland which I placed at the top to embellish it..  Yeah, i was able to smile.. last layout of the series.. first posted...
